Amara: “My first 6 months as a live camgirl”

I’m Amara and I’m here to share how I’ve found my first 6 months as a live camgirl.

I started my journey into webcamming in January 2024, having lost my job following a probation period.

On the same day as losing my job, I was also supposed to do my annual re-registration in my profession.

I decided against that, having been working almost six years in my career and ultimately unhappy.

Being creative, likely neurodivergent and with a rebellious side I could not exercise in my career, the corporate world just did not suit me.

I played with the idea of switching to another career and industry and even upskilled to apply for other roles. This will sound familiar to a lot of people.

After a period of applying and knowing that I could not pretend to care anymore, I decided against going back into an office environment.

I was so certain it would not work for me and would do anything to avoid going back.

Needs must so I started doing newspaper rounds to cover the bills immediately.

In terms of longer term work, I knew I needed something that fulfilled the wild side that has always been there.

I began looking into adult entertainment and went on Tiktok to look for information about becoming a stripper. I was keen to hear from black women in the industry, and what works for them.

Reaching out

Someone caught my eye on Tiktok so I messaged her for advice. She was kind enough to reach out send me some information.

The info led me to a site called ‘Laptastic’ which is a lapdancing agency.

It is there I saw an affiliate company ‘LVE Models.’

I had heard about webcam modelling at a younger age. The ability to work for myself from home were the first things that struck a chord with me.

This was the very type of opportunity I had been looking for. After doing research, I saw that LVE Models offer mentoring and no prior experience was needed.

I liked the information they presented online and watched their model video testimonials.

I approached them and they were very responsive and helpful.

There has been no bullshit when it comes to LVE Models, they are real people. I have truly been guided and supported. I believe this is because the mentoring is run by someone who has years of experience as a cam model, and genuinely cares.

Now I am almost 6 months into my webcamming career. My confidence has grown and I am enjoying interacting with customers from a positive stance.

Of course there are a few trolls, but these are easy to block and the majority of interactions are positive.

Things I love

I have a good laugh with a lot of customers. Having fun makes camming more worthwile and helps motivate me on days were I’m not feeling best.

A huge learning curve in how to overcome hurdles and practice patience, as camming takes a lot of that.

I’m enjoying caring for myself, getting up with a purpose and making myself up. Having to look good on cam forces me make the effort, so I feel good about about my appearance each day.

I’ve also really enjoyed challenging myself by adding content creation to my bow.

I set up an X account so I’m pushing my content through social media and building my following there.

High times

Winning the $500 bonus prize in a competition for gaining the most followers between March – April! This has been my greatest moment so far!

Most recently I had a supporter request a Lovense toy wishlist! The additional toys have really boosted my streams.

This came at a really good time and my goal going forward is to push my targets further with this.

I have already had the opportunity to fulfill some of my goals through webcamming. Being able to pick my location, take time for myself and become a lot happier, all these things for the win!

I am also able to be flexible with my hours and choose when I work. This works really well as I have other interests and like getting involved in other projects.

I find camming to be the most liberating job I’ve ever done. I’ve absolutely loved my first 6 months as a live camgirl and I look forward to continuing on this journey.

Amara’s top tips for new camgirls

Practice patience and consistency. Camming, like anything, only works well if you’re consistent.
Try different times of the day, different outfits, personas and positions to work out what fits you best.
Take regular breaks if you find you cannot work longer sessions. Camming can be draining. It affects the outcome when energy is depleted.
Have hobbies and other things going on outside of cam, so you look forward to working on cam.
Camming allows you to be who you want to be, so nurture that authenticity and be proud of it.

How to set your boundaries

Learn how to set your boundaries to lay down ground rules and command the respect of chat room visitors.

Who is the boss of your chat room? It is YOU! Not those who enter!

A common problem for cam models, especially newbies, is site members trying to take advantage and tell them what to do.

Members can be cheeky, bossy and persistent at times.

When a model is told to do things for no financial reward, including demands for things she is not comfortable with, this is tedious.

Inexperienced models are vulnerable to this nature of exploitation, so gaining awareness of what boundaries are and how to set them is key.

Help with how to set your boundaries

First thing’s first, what are your boundaries? Do you know how to define them? Consider these questions:

How do you want to appear to viewers? I advise, keep it classy for the most respectful approaches!
What are you prepared to do and show on cam? Think about your comfort levels in live mode versus private mode.
Which things are you not willing do on cam? Consider types of actions and shows involving nudity and sexual acts.
What level of behaviour do you expect from your viewers? Consider if you are happy to have both interactive and non interactive viewers present, and determine who you will permit to chat/stay in your room.
How you would like them to address and communicate with you? For example should they address you by name, by a title or by specific terms. Understand that politeness and common decency is what you deserve.
Would there be any rules you would set (your own code of conduct) on top of the site rules? This could relate to financial things like minimums or pretips. It could also relate to things like interaction and behaviour.

It is really important to be clear on your answers. Answer them how you feel most comfortable. Write them down for your reference. This forms the basis of how to set your boundaries and ultimately, how to manage your chat room.

Form your chat room rules and add to your profile

All cam sites have a bio section on the model profiles, where models can write information about themselves. Depending on the site, some also have a chat room rules or chat room notice section.

Wherever there is a free format box to input your own text, is a good place to make your own boundaries and rules clear.

Type your own rules out in short bullet points. Bullet points are easy for people to read and understand. Keep it polite and friendly.

Example of chat room rules:

Welcome to my chat room! I love you being here, please follow my rules:
1. Please say hi when you enter and address me as xxxxxx (enter name or titles)
2. Be polite and respectful to me and all members.
3. I love playing so tip for what you want to see! It’s all in the tip menu.
4. If you cannot tip, please do not make requests or demands as these will not be fulfilled.
5. Continual demands or other rudeness will see you banned.
6. Public chat is xxxxxx (enter requirement e.g. non nude / topless only. Fully nude is in private.
7. Please do not ask me for xxxxxx (enter types of acts or shows you exclude), I do not do these shows.
8. I have a minimum private show time of xx minutes / $ (enter amount). Please respect this.

Work on your own chat room rules using this as a guideline… Then go online and put your rules into action!

Enforce your rules

When members come into your room, you will find that some are proactive and read the profile information. Many others are not and will not. You can never tell who will and who won’t, so start voicing it!

It is perfectly fine to ask members to read and observe your rules when they enter. It might feel a little awkward to start with! However the more you do this, the more natural it feels.

A simple: “Hi guys, welcome to my room! Please read my chat room rules so you know how to engage with me, you can find these xxxxxx (explain where)” – is sufficient.

Doing this is a polite ice-breaker and commands respect as soon as members meet you. It lets people know you have expectations and boundaries… and standards!

Be strong! Stick to your rules and never lose sight of your boundaries.

If these are questioned by any person, inform them that webcamming is your job. You are there to work and operate as a professional.

If they do not wish to comply, they can leave (or you can kick them out)!

I find being chatty even when it’s not busy helps things pick up.

Sometimes I look in other model’s rooms and the girls aren’t chatting at all. They’re sat looking down at their phones and then wonder why it’s dead in their room.

Just be friendly all the time and somebody will chat back to you or tip. Once someone tips, this encourages other guys.

Being super chatty and interactive helps more people be attracted into your room.

Try not to take any negativity personally. Occasionally people are not nice on cam sites but the problem is them, not you.

Do your best to try new things often, such as different show ideas and outfits as this keeps the viewers interested.

Try restyling your cam environment, improving your lighting and webcam, all these things are important for models and their rooms to look professional.

Mindset always has to be positive or you won’t make money!

Even when there’s not much going on I try not to slip into any negative thoughts and emotions. I remind myself to keep smiling and pushing.

Sometimes I take a little break to collect myself and get my positive mood back on track. I dance, listen to music or go for a walk.

I love to do breath work as this is known to calm the nervous system and raise the vibration.

I recommend breath work to all cam models. Especially if you feel nervous or struggle with low moods or lack of motivation. There are lots of breathwork tutorials on YouTube.

It is good to sell Snapchat on your profile because it is extra income.

You can use it to tell your followers when you go online. Tell them about new content you sell, with a link to buy.

My advice is do not give your Snapchat away for free or sell it too cheap. You will end up attracting the wrong type of followers.

I tried this and had to answer messages, deal with demands, requests to be girlfriend, and things like that. All from guys who have no money to tip.

These guys would also watch my snaps every week and send me dick pics. This was irritating so I removed all these guys.

I have since increased my price significantly for Snapchat. Now only serious guys who spend money will purchase. Much better!
