Models often ask me for advice on what to do when it’s dead online. Here are some tricks to help your chat room pick up, maintain better consistency through the seasonal ups and downs along with managing expectations.
Summer is a time of year where cam sites can be slow. We often see a downturn in quality traffic over the summer months as the regular, supportive members head out to enjoy their holiday time.
There are fair-weather family gatherings, graduation parties, summer vacations and school holidays that result in cam models' regulars being less consistent logging on.
I always reassure our models that this is normal and not to take it personally if their tippers are around less often during summer (and any other time of the year when it's holiday season in their region).
Many models become demotivated as they struggle to make the same weekly figures they made in March through May.
During these times it’s all about managing expectations whilst increasing the hustle to be one of the stand-out models that still overall do well, no matter how busy or slow the site generally is for the majority.
MANAGE EXPECTATIONS
For the new models, summer can be a tough time to join. There are thousands of others trying to make their way and get established, and it's peak holiday season.
Many join sites expecting it to be instant easy money, week on week, but in reality its not like that. The rewards of patience and persistence may not be realised until 6, 12 or even 18 months down the line.
It's all about managing expectations and understanding there is no overnight success in cam modeling.
Newbies need to focus on building their following in the early days, and look ahead with optimism on the basis that staying positive and staying on the grind will enable them to grow and flourish later on.
There is always a high turnover of models and members so continually try new things to attract new tippers and increase earning potential.
HOW YOUR ROOM GETS DEAD
As an experienced cam model having also had to get established from scratch, I know first hand how demotivating it can feel when there’s not much going on in the chat room. It's hard not to take it personally and it's easy to become deflated.
I’ve had sessions SO tedious that I would have rather stuck pins in my eyes than be trapped in a situation talking to a bunch of zombies who don’t respond.
I took the time to find out how the nature of live chat sites work and what encourages things to pick up when it seems dead. As a result of my initiative I became enlightened by the fact that the more fed up I got and the flatter my energy levels became, the slower my room became.
It was as though viewers were mirroring my energy, feeding off it and becoming lazy.
I concluded that as difficult as it may feel to stay enthusiastic when it seems dead online, the absolute last thing a cam model should do is let her energy slump.
Looking bored, irritated, scrolling through the phone, sitting/laying in a lazy position will do nothing more than turn off the viewers. They become uninspired the point they either leave/scroll past the room, or just remain inactive and "lurk," as though to be waiting to see if anything exciting might happen.
WHAT TO DO TO MAKE IT BUSY
Energy attracts energy of the same frequency, so up-tempo your vibe, be animated and kick-start your viewers into action!
Study and upgrade your...
BODY LANGUAGE
Keep this positive and approachable. Switch up the body positions from sitting to laying, move around in the camera view to display movement in the room and stay energised.
Keep facial expressions interested, smiley and sexy. All of this gives the illusion the room is busy even when its quiet. This in turn encourages viewers to enter the room, be inspired by the model and feel like they can form a connection with them.
STAY CHATTY
So nobody’s talking back, who cares! Just chat anyway! Learning to be comfortable with talking to oneself is a really valuable skill to learn as a camgirl.
Chat about anything. For example, what you did at the weekend, what music you’re listening to, how much you love your new sex toy. Any topic that’s engaging and fun is good for keeping viewers' attention.
You can even make stuff up for jaw-dropping effect or comedy if your mind works in cheeky ways! Nobody will know whether it’s your real life or not.
BE SHOWY
Do something fun or crazy to grab members’ attention and make them feel more inclined to interact. Here are some ideas:
Melt ice on your butt/cleavage, talk about how warm it is and ask if they’d love to see a naughty show with ice.
Do a squats workout, ass to camera, in some hot pants or yoga pants. This sets pulses races!
Eat a banana seductively, or some strawberries or grapes. Ask your audience if they’re into food play.
Rub your feet over a dildo and talk about how much you love foot massages.
Show your sex toys and talk about them, share some experiences.
Rub oil/lotion on your body. You don’t need to strip. Wear a bikini to spark their imagination.
Do a hot fashion show, trying on different outfits and asking for their feedback.
Do sexy stretching, splits, headstands or anything else athletic if you’re a fit girl.
Do something artistic like drawing if this is your thing, or play a card trick/game.
Do some preening – curl your hair, paint your nails, do a pedi etc.
STAY SPARKLY
Whatever happens, try to stay consistent and keep that sparkle. This is what makes potential tippers warm up, rather than slip out of the room without even saying hi.
Personality is what wins fans over on cam sites. Make you cam persona appealing and maintain a good attitude no matter how slow or busy it feels.
A cam model with a personality that sparkles always stands a better chance of making money during the slower times - versus models who cannot be personable and remain chatty and positive when the going gets tough.
Lastly… and this is very important:
I recommend you adjust your expectations during the seasonal peaks and troughs. For me personally I've never been ashamed to set lower income targets and goals.
This means I am not putting myself under unnecessary pressure and getting stressed that I'm not making the money I hoped for during the typically slow holiday seasons. Then if I smash my target, I'm elated!
Never take slow times personally, as the majority of cam models, no matter what level they're at; have fire sessions and other sessions where everyone in their room is snoozing and they wish they hadn't bothered.
It's all character building and it helps to build up that all-important resilience which is vital for long term success as a cam model.
